Collections

Collections are the way that the JAPP credits the owners of the original items. It enables readers to look at all the documents that come from one archive or one archival collection.

Every document must have a collection associated with it. You will find the collection printed on the target above the first page of microfilmed documents. You then locate it on the drop-down list and select it.

For newly located documents, the editors will provide collection identifications, which should already be in the database. If you cannot find the collection you need in the drop-down list, consult an editor to have it added.

To find them fast, use the initials of the collection, e.g. JAP for Jane Addams Papers, or MSA for the Mrs. S.A. Haldeman collection; they select the correct one from the list.

Note that there are sometimes more than one collection with the same initials. Do look at the drop down list and pick the correct one.
